How Metal Roofs Work
Metal roofing typically comes in 1-meter sections (or varying lengths) that connect together via seams. Different manufacturers use different seam types—nail strip seams, folded seams, or bulb seams. S-5! clamps are engineered to sit directly on these seams, allowing you to attach equipment without drilling holes or risking water ingress.
Choosing the Right Clamp
Each S-5! clamp is designated by a letter suffix (like S-5-N, S-5-U, or S-5-S), with each letter indicating compatibility with specific seam profiles. Some clamps may overlap in their seam compatibility, but each also fits unique configurations. It’s essential to verify that your chosen clamp matches your roof’s seam type.
Standard vs. Mini Clamps
S-5! offers two clamp sizes for most models:
Standard Clamps
Designed for heavier loads like walkways and gantries. They come with an M10 bolt pre-installed in the top and feature two grub screws on the sides to grip—but not pierce—the seam.
Mini Clamps
Roughly half the size of standard clamps and suited for lighter applications like solar panels. They have one grub screw and an M8 bolt hole on top (bolt not included). The bolt is omitted because most users integrate these clamps with S-5!’s own solar mounting system, which is designed to fit directly into that M8 hole.
